View Full Version : CTF_Finality (I R mapper too!)

This has been kicking about on my system for some time now. Ive been one for starting maps with the greatest of intentions and never actually finishing them. If anyone could spare a few minutes to take a looksie and tell me whats wrong/right/pointless it'd be appreciated. With only a few weeks to go, id like to get one map finished before the release of UT3.

Just downloaded your map, first of all congrats on getting this far :smile:
I usually get bored after the first hour and stop :tongue:
It's shaping up to become a good map, maybe not for 7v7, but for smaller numbers like 4v4 or 5v5..
First ill say what i think needs a bit of tweaking then i'll get onto the good points :smile:

FLAGROOM
At first when i spawned i thought i was on blue, but i looked at the flag and noticed it was red... maybe a bit of a colour scheme so people can identify which base they are in:

apart from that nice setup, as players can go up normally or lift jump onto the pipe near the flag and take a possible defender on the flag platform out.


HEALTHROOM?
I couldn't really name this room as as far as i can tell the only reason it exists is to house a keg o health or supershield, maybe ad it as another way into the flag chamber?
It's not really a secret room as the conveyor basically tells you where it is, so maybe make it some extra fighting space by extending the roof highlighted and making the passage wider?

THE LITTLE THINGS
In one of the hallways leading out of a flag chamber i remember seeing a grille on the floor and peeking through to see what i think is the skybox, also the textures are uneven, but it is easily solved.

Also there was a particular block of texture that for some reason decided to be more highlighted than the others, i'm not sure whats causing this....

The last bad thing im gonna say about this map is the fact that the only weapons available are shock, flak and rockets, what if my opponent is carrying the flag and he happens to have very low health, i would usually whip out the mini or link and spam away... but i cant. Also my faviroute weapon wasnt there :( GOOOP !

GOOD THINGS:
I noticed that the first time i went through the main 'fighting room' as im gonna call it (the big room with lots of space), i thought it was rather bland and boring, but when i added a couple of bots it became alive with activity and its a great place to fight, also i noticed the ceilings were done very well, (much better than the block - texture ceilings i do ^^)

The bots are also pathed very well, a number of times they managed to outrun me when they had my flag.


All in all its shaping up to be a great map, just the little things here and there that could make it excellent :D

Wow, thanks for taking the time to have a looksie worms.

I was never keen on the conveyor myself, as your right, it is kinda obvious. I might replace them with some stairs, leading into a control room of sorts.

I cant recall if id finished it, but behind the crates in the keg o health room there should be an air vent leading into the s-shaped passage that leads from the base. My idea was that a player could sneak into the room, stock up on a goodie or two then drop suddenly right outside the front door of the opponents base.

Ha ha, and yes, that looks like the sky box through the vent, and fixing the bright texture shouldnt be a problem either.

Although I dont think its not ideally suited, ill stick a couple of scorps in somewhere and make a VM version too :D

hmm.......... it's a bit small for vehicles and the scorpion may not be able to make it up stairs...
