I Recently Had to Reinstall XP because my PC would not start

anyways, after the reinstallation, i plugged in my headset and i can hear sound out of it But One Side is louder than the Other, I Tried Adjusting The Balance and The Volume controls but its still not working properly, I Went To The Logitech website and they couldnt really help, i found one interesting thing but i dont get it (lol) so does anyone know how i can fix the Volume Controls so The Sound Balance is perfect?

P.S. I think i could use My PC Speakers For Sound and Use The Headset For Using the Microphone by looking at this on the logitech website:

Q: Can I plug in my USB headset/microphone and still get sound out of my speaker/onboard sound card?
A: Yes, but you must first select you primary playback device in the volume control mixer, then adjust its volume.

Still Dont get it, but can anyone help with this?

Come on monkey, that's fairly simple. Go to control panel, and click Sound. Click the playback tab. Click whatever device you want to use for playback and click "set default".
Btw, do you have the correct drivers installed for your headset? Bah, usb mics are nedlessly complicated.

Are you sure that you plugged your headphone jack in properly?

Also maybe fiddle with the wires or something... It's always possible they got a bit broken so the signal would get weak on one of them, I dunno, just a possibility...
