It's been a while so let's talk about your current gaming equipment and settings.
What mouse, mouse pad, resolution, fov and sense do you currently use?
I've still got a MX518. Mouse pad: SteelSeries S&S (Plastic, 320 x 270 x 2 mm)
Resolution 1920x1080, FOV90, Mouse sense: 30cm for a 360° Turn, @1800dpi, @500 Hz.
I'm torn between 400 and 1800dpi (the min. and max. of my mouse). I used to play with 400dpi and it's said to be perfect for my mouse sense but 1800 doesn't feel bad either.
Ps. It's a MX518 Rev.2 in the case of a MX518 Rev.1 (I prefer the rubber coating over the new soft touch surface). And I increased the weight of the mouse to ~114g.
I'm not at my desktop atm, so I can't post precise info yet. I'll just say: MX518 ftw! \o/ \\o o// \o/

Currently also have a MX518, but for some reason I find that it sucks. It can just never find the correct dpi settings for that one (default doesn't feel right, the next one is too high, the last one too low) and the buttons to change it are placed in a way that I often push them accidentally in the middle of a fight. And the driver sucks, I can't change the settings for those buttons or even disable them.
My old GM-4200 from Trust was better, I think, and only 20€ instead of the 50€ I paid for the MX518.

I bought my father another mouse and that one is quite good as well, I really like it. Forgot the name but it looks a bit like a MS Sidewinder.
1680x1050, all details on max.
FOV = 100
Pad = some cheap promotion pad from the German Aerospace Center… looks like it already tasted some unknown orange liquid.
And the driver sucks, I can't change the settings for those buttons or even disable them.

That's what I use. My switch screens buttons acts as F12 in UT2004, which swaps to my avril or, if not available, shock rifle to quickly blast incoming mantas. :D

In the driver you can disable any button you like - except the left/right mouse button? Select the button, "other", "do nothing".

After reading some (http://www.overclock.net/mice/608508-mx-518-setpoint-hidusbf-something-else.html) of the many threads about the MX518 Rev.2 over at overclock.net (http://www.google.de/#hl=de&biw=1344&bih=599&q=site:overclock.net+mx518+clipping), I’m now back on 400dpi and I deinstalled the Logitech software.
It seems the Japanese (http://wikis.jp/interfacedevice/index.php?MaximumSpeed_en#h8b72e01) found out that there might be some problems with Setpoint (http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp333/ferretdna/stuff/MX-518-setpoint_clipping.gif) installed and the dpi set to 1800 (http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp333/ferretdna/stuff/MX-518_setpoint.gif).
They suggest to overclock (http://www.overclock.net/mice/608508-mx-518-setpoint-hidusbf-something-else.html) your Mouse/USB port to 500hz and set the dpi to a low value while gaming.
Most people won’t be able to notice the difference anyway but I thought I should mention it ;)

Logitech G500, it was a free replacement they sent me when my g5 stopped working.
360 is about 28 ish cm, my whole mat.
Set to 1600 DPI and 0.27 in game.
Perhaps I should try 400 and a higher in game value.

That's exactly what I did, but it didn't prevent the mouse from still using those buttons for dpi changing then.

Was it only in certain applications or at all times?

All the time. Even in Windows.
But I don't care anymore, I learned to use it more carefully.
