A hardware upgrade has been performed on server #1... It is now an AMD Sempron 2800+ compared to an Athlon XP 1600+ before...

Perhaps now it will lag less when it's at it's maximum capacity of 14 players and also lag less on some of the CPU killer maps (such as AS-vehicleskilltrials).

Also, maybe it will crash less than the previous server as I suspect it may be the case that the old one was crashing due to an overheating issue.

Hopefully the new server is working, although I haven't been able to verify that people can connect to it over the internet yet! Let me know if there are problems!

dude, thats sweet man. i will get on there when i can, hows the new PC? some serious ownage now from the lean mean overclocked machine! (untill it melts like old server1 :-P)

Well, the new server hasn't melted so far... But my new desktop PC that I bought has melted :((

Got an ATI X1950 Pro and it worked for a day or two I think... but occasionally the screen went blank randomly, then my comp suddenly crashed and since then whenever I go into 3D mode it hangs... Except if I underclock the graphics card to like, half the clock speed, it works!!!! Weird, huh? <sigh>

oh man, not good, thats a send it back it dont work kinda thing. just say u dont know why its gone wrong, dont let on u know about computers :-P

Looked into it some more... I think it's the PSU isn't powerful enough... Like, it can only do 16A on the 12V rail and I was reading that those cards need at least 18A... Really annoying cause the PSU that came with the case initially (was a bundle for £20) didn't have a PCI-E connector :< So then at gross expense I went out and bought another PSU for £30 and that's underpowered too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Maybe I'll just run it underclocked for the next year... It seems to run all the latest games pretty fast even with the reduced clock speeds anyway :)

yeah, i had a powersupply running on the cusp for ages then it stoped working, then i put it in server 2 and it worked! :-P
I got a 600w PSU for about £30 a while back, i know u gota be carefull with their Watts to Amps translation as they (like with crappy stereos) sometimes say the watts in their peek value as opposed to their RMS / or continuious output meaning less true amps.
My GeForce 7900 thing has a supply from the psu as well, im thinking if i add 1 more thing to my pc my psu might not cope.

This is the PSU i got for my last pc (b4 the c2duo) 22.74 inc VAT plus a couple quid for delivery

it had 5700le craphics
3 hd's and DVDRW
big sound card er.. delta 24/96 i think
athlon xp2600 i think
and 7 case fans....it sounds like a hover (not the psu), but my rooms never clean lol :-P

hmmz... Dunno whether the PSU you stated is sufficient, they don't seem to give the actual ampages :( The PSU I just bought was 570W... and it wasn't sufficient so :S

It's looking like I'll need a PSU in the £50+ range I think... I don't wanna go out and waste another £30 on a useless PSU :p

Ah well, maybe I should just go and kill ATI for not giving accurate information on the power requirements of their cards... I mean seriously, they say like 350W should be sufficient lol...

if its the psu ive got, (think it is) on the side it says....
3.3v = 35A (38A peak)
5v = 30A (32A)
12v(1) = 18A (20A)
12v(2) = 18A (20A)

540W (600W)
dude, "The PSU I just bought was 570W" then that sould work i would think
are u sure its a power supply thing? if u have a voltage tester or mother board voltage monitor u could run up ur garphics and see it the voltage drops.
duno if u know this but the bigger the load the more the voltage drop, especially when u r dealing with lower (extra low voltage) stuff.
Thats why power is transmitted at 400000v so if u drop a volt or 2 no 1 is gona miss it :-P (dont put 400000v in ur pc though lol)
ive had the 5v running at 4.7 then crashed at 4.6 on a failing psu i sent back one time ages ago.
im sure u know this to but it can be handy if u dont (there is more to it so ur results will never be identical to manufactures numbers).

P=I x V

Where P is power in watts
I is current in Amps
can u guess what v is lol (volts chough chough :-P)
and everyone knows V=I x R appart from those who dont hehe

Yeah, I did that and the 12V is at 11.98v when the graphics card is idle (i.e. in 2D mode) then as soon as I run a 3D app (in this case ATI tools 3D view thing) the voltage drops to 11.66V... I suspect it's slightly lower still on the normal clock speed...

duno if u know this but the bigger the load the more the voltage drop, especially when u r dealing with lower (extra low voltage) stuff.

lol... hmm... I dunno, maybe 400000v is what those cards really need? :p

The other idea I contemplated is sticking two power supplies together... :p I think I did it once b4... can't remember how u do it though lol... plus might blow everything up :S

2 power supplies should work, i would think some pins would need to be shorted on the motherboard power connector to tell the power supply to come on or something? i would have thought google would have some answers, but then there is the space isue, i have seen a case that gas space for 2 psu's at work!
(the guy that built it just won £11000 playing CS at the Newbury Racecourse multiplay uk lan party thingy! lucky fucker, he said they might one day do one at ascot....woooohooooo! not CS though UT!)
