ADSL is still very popular and I know exactly 0 people with cable internet. Yet I thought about switching to cable since it seems cheaper + faster.
Does anyone of you got cable resp. switched from/to ADSL and can tell me about the Up

i had like 2MB dsl when i was at my parents house. and never had any problems with it. Now i have 20MB cable, and again no problems, other than the usual (insufficient speeds etc) but it was quite a jump from 2MB to 20MB that everything felt sooo much different. ne other good thing about cable is that you can get some insane speeds, i.e. 50MB in my area... CrAzY!!
At this moment the koax cable technology limit is around 400Mbit/s while the ADSL technology limit is around 80MB/s (or 120MB/s in some rare cases), but keep in mind that the ADSL is a point to point technology, while the cable speed is shared with everyone, so if the cable bandwitch becomes heavy, then your pings jumps to the skies and maybe above, while ADSL technology can provide lower pings even on heavy load. Of course after a point, the ADSL breaks too.
Both technology has a huge suck: as far as you're from the transmission centre, as much as you suck.
In Europe, and mostly in Romania and Hungary a new technology is widely used: FTTB and the even newer FTTH building technology.
This means the optical fibre ends directly in your house (or flat, depends witch one you live). This technology makes possible 10Gbit/sec bandwitch, but at this moment the limit is "just" 2.488Gbit/sec downstream and 1.244Gbit/sec upstream.
The best new is that the distance does not affect your bandwitch quality, and the running cost is realy cheap, so your prices are cheaper too!
And i work for this company :D .
20/10Mbit net for 8

Since you work for them I'm sure you have free high speed internet then yes? :)
Or are the hungarians too tight to spare such luxuries like they do over here :D

Wow I wanna get that too then... Afaik we got warned twice by the European Union twice so far, for the net being so expensive here, compared to other countries.
PS: I live in Hungary too.

Tango, in germany 16k adsl has the speedping built in, u don`t have to pay for the option there.

There's nothing bad about either one of them. Just go for the best/cheapest.
Thanks for all your inputs so far. I’m still undecided but with a tendency to DSL. The price for cable internet 20000/1000 (tel. + inet (unlimited calls landline / traffic)) is 20€ in the first 15 months & I didn’t find a relevant amount of people who say they’re unhappy with cable.
Find someone in your area, from the target ISP, and ask to test their connection for a half an hour in friday night (peak load in every ISP).
This is the best way to determine if a cabled based connectionis overloaded or not.
It is key important that you try in the same area of your city, the other side of it use different connection.
In general cable connection sucks if it is about ping and latency *if* a lot of user use it.
If you wish so, change my vote to "Cable sucked I switched to DSL" because in 2006 i used cable connection and it was a huge suck. Since 2007 i use ADSL, and i was almost forgot my cable connection problems nowadays.
